Garry Shead†s paintings and printmaking highlight a distinct love of the Australian landscape. His Stockman series of the late 1980s was followed by a series of paintings based on D.H. Lawrence†s book â€~Kangaroo†, after he came across letters by Lawrence on an expedition to the Sepik Highlands in Papua New Guinea in 1968. Notable bodies of work include the Graal paintings, the Outback series, the Lawrence paintings, the Royal suite and the Dancers
Garry Shead
Shead studied at the NAS from 1961-62. He co-edited a publication with Martin Sharp called Arty Wild Oat in 1962, which led to the foundation of Oz magazine.
